Picture won't "stretch"

The picture’s wider than the column, but no matter what I do to resize it, it won’t show larger. I’d like to be able to have pictures that extend past the border of the text, like the demo shows.

How do I fix this?

WordPress cannot create larger thumbnails than the size you upload.

So, you’d need to either
a) hack the template or use custom CSS to make the image in the template be
style="width:100%;height:auto"

b) use a plugin like Thumbnail Upscale which will create the larger image sizes for some of the templates than what you upload.

Uploaded photo is 1920 x 973 – in the visual editor it shows it as being wider than the text. So I’m not trying to make the thumbnail larger. I just want it to show closer to the size I actually uploaded, vs. the size being enforced by the theme.

In the demo it shows pictures being wider than text. I’d like to be able to do the same.
