prevent a post from showing in big grid

Hi,

I’m trying to run a numbered series of weekly tutorial style articles in the sidebar, just below the big grid.

I’m using block 15 but I don’t want these articles to show in the big grid when they are posted as this will duplicate the content.

The idea is that as a new article is posted each week the depth of the sidebar will grow to accommodate the new articles as they are posted, hopefully creating a sequential panel of tutorial type articles that can be followed in order.

I have tried to isolate the articles that show in the big grid to the items in the main nav and have the articles that are intended for the sidebar in a separate category that isn’t linked to the selections made in the big grid block but they still show in the big grid when I post them.

I have set the block 15 settings to only show the articles from my chosen category and that works great but some of the articles seem to be getting jumbled up so it will go 1,2,3,4,7,8,5,9,10 instead of in numerical (post date) order

Is there another way I can stop these articles from appearing in the big grid?

Is there a way of making sure the articles stay in number order?

These articles wont be in the main navigation as they will be shown continuously in the side bar on the home page and will be available through their own category page which won’t appear in the main nav, it will be clickable like an ad that will take you to the relevant articles page

Sorry for the convoluted explanation 🙂

I think you can exclude your custom category from big grid by putting in the filtering of -NN where NN is the custom category ID number. I do this with the 2 column slider on my state based news portal, where I don’t want “national” news to be featured at all, only local news.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for that, works like a charm.

I had read that in the little box where you enter the info but I was trying to add the category name not the ID number.

I’ve figured out the second part of the question too as it’s adding the posts to the block from their creation date not the date published 🙂

Thanks again for your help.
