I’m looking to launch my site in a few days and I have been working on customizing the theme a bit at nights. When I have it set to a default theme, it works fine. As soon as I enable newsmag and refresh the page, it keeps crashing the page, saying safari web content quit unexpectedly, and saying that a problem occured so it was reloaded, then I get the web content popup again and it keeps refreshing till after four or five times, it loads it correctly. This is a big problem for me because I can’t launch with the site acting like this or users are going to be turned off.
I’m also getting some strange activity with the big grid. The photos are not stretching to fit, leaving some blank space at the bottom.

There also seems to be some space under my ad and before the next blog in the sidebar. I’m probably going to disable the theme in a bit again, but let me know if you want to take a look and I’ll enable.
GO back to v1.6 — v 1.7 added some code which can crash some servers; it did to us on one site, while the 1.6 sites hum along nicely. Took the 1.7 site back to 1.6, no issues.

The 1.8 version is supposed to fix the issue — and they are trying to sort out the problem for new update by next week (supposedly).
For the photos issue, try adding the “thumbnail upscale” plugin then run the “regenerate thumbnails” plugin 🙂
Ok, I’ll try requesting the previous version. Hate that I have to install two plugins to do something as simple as make sure the image fits the entire height, but since the grid has two different sized images, I couldn’t figure out a way to get it to work in css witbout it throwing everything off. Appreciate the help.
Welcome to WordPress. WP doesn’t support “enlarging of images.” They (Automattic) turn OFF the built in function of the ImageMagick module on server for their stupid philosophy that enlarged images look fuzzy. Hence need to use a plugin to allow images to be larger than the size you upload.
So, not a theme issue. But still super annoying. Hence need for a plugin to “unlock” the featured to make thumbs larger to “crop and fit” things like sliders/blocks.
Obviously you have to regenerate your thumbnails to fit the sizes used by the theme if they don’t exist.

Chris, I want to see if you can help me with one more thing. Ever since I rolled back to 1.6, the theme can’t be activated it. When I enter the purchase code, it takes me to a page that says, Are you sure you want to do this? and Please try again linked. When I click please try again, it takes me back to the previous page. I tried manual activation and still can’t get it to work. I want to make sure the theme doesn’t stop working when I launch my site tomorrow.
I don’t know what causes that error, not seen it before myself.
Are you talking about theme activation, or entering the purchase verification code.
Theme activation is done in appearance panel, as you know.
Entering activation code removes the nag screen to confirm you bought the theme.
I think it will keep working — it just will bug you every time you load the admin.
I might suspect a caching issue there someplace.
