Hey guys, great theme and a well sorted update.
I have a little problem with my main navigation.
A couple of months ago I set all of my pages to be pulled from their respective categories as I thought this would lessen strain on the server and reduce the number of calls to visual composer but after doing some testing the performance wasn’t noticeably different.
I’ve now decided I would rather like to add more functionality to the new pages through VC so I have changed all of the menu items back to having their own page so they don’t pull from the category.
Now I have all of the pages in the main navigation set to pull their respective page in the wordpress backend via Appearence/menus as you normally would but when I refresh the home page and click on my Navigation items they still pull the content from the category and not the new pages
I have refreshed the permalinks, cleared all of the caches and tried it in several different browsers but the problem remains.
I did activate cloudflare on the site a few weeks ago and then decided to turn it off, I am wondering if the site is still being fed content from cloudflare even though it has been off for a month or so? How I would go about checking this.
I have had a few weeks off from developing this site whilst waiting for the new update so it may be something simple that I am overlooking.
Any ideas would be very welcome
I also have a little problem with the navigation in Chrome and firefox on my android tablet. The main items in the nav bar are fine, the sub pages show when you press the nav item and they work fine but the main pages in the navigation don’t open when you click them, just the drop down appears and you can’t access the main page.
Please let me know your thoughts
Many thanks
John
Don’t sweat this one guys, it seems to have sorted itself out. I’ve still got one item in the nav bar that’s a category but I’m assuming that will come back of it’s own accord shortly.
The odd thing about it is even though I’m logged in to the wordpress back end, when I click on the item that’s still a category the login bar disappears from the top of the screen and reappears when I move to another page, very odd but hey shit happens I guess.
Hi,
If you want to get the link when you click on a menu item with submenu on tablet please follow this solution – https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/tap-menu-on-ipad/
I also made some test but I couldn’t recreate your issue with login bar. You might try this without any plugins active maybe some settings of a plugin cause this.
Thanks!
Thanks Alin, I’ll have a go at making the changes and let you know how I get on.
With regards to the issue I thought I had solved with the navigation pulling the categories, it has now returned lol
I updated to the latest version of wordpress last night and now it’s happening again, any ideas on how to stop the menu pulling categories when there are no categories set in the menu only pages?
Best
John
Hi Alin,
So, I went into my permalinks screen and at the bottom there’s the following 2 fields, Category base and Tag base
https://unplug.tips/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/permalinks.jpg
When I set the category base to category it pulls the category page from the navigation menu even though the menu is set to pull a specific page
When I leave the category field blank, it goes back to operating normally.
What is the purpose of this Category field and will leaving it blank alter the overall functionality of the theme in any way?
Many thanks
John

I think I’ve solved it, I think it’s a caching issue.
I’ll have to do a lot more testing as there’s been loads of updates and I need to get a stable base to work from but it seems like one of the theme/wordpress/plugin updates from the last few days has altered the behaviour of WP fastest cache plugins operation.
I’ll update this later for anyone who gets a similar problem
So now it’s really pissing me off.
for the last 2 days I’ve been struggling with this fucking menu, sometimes it’ll pull categories, sometimes it’ll pull pages, sometimes it will only effect 1 page and then move to another page but I have my menu set up to pull pages and it’s not. It’s pulling categories.
I thought it was a plugin issue and it did seem that plugins were effecting it but now I have no plugins active and it’s still doing it.
I had got the site working perfectly until I activated the lazy load feature and now I have categories in the whole of the menu again
Can anyone tell me how I can trace where the page is supposed to be coming from? or recommend a debugging tool so I can see WTF is going on?
Please HEEEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
I had changed the category base in the permalinks page and left it blank when refreshed a couple of days ago this cleared the problem.
I have just changed category base back to category, saved it, removed it and then saved the permalinks again and this has cleared the problem.
Could some plugin like yoast be changing the category base permalinks when it is turned on? How do I stop that?
Hi,
Depending on how you set the permalinks and the name of the pages/categories, it may be a possible for a page permalink to be identical with a category link and that may have been the cause of this issue.
Check the permalinks settings in the advanced section of WordPress SEO plugin – http://screencast.com/t/OcFPzDoT
Thank you, Emil G.
