Hello,
We moved an old site over to NewsMag. The site has over 9000 articles and at this point our only option is to go through every post individually and ad a feature image (almost always one of the images attached to the post already.
Does anyone have a quicker way to maybe do this in bulk or automate the process?
Please and thank you!
Hi,
You can use a plugin for that which will automatically set as feature image the first image found on your posts. I can’t recommend you a specific one as we haven’t tested the theme with these types of plugins but you could try yourself one like Easy Add Thumbnail: https://wordpress.org/plugins/easy-add-thumbnail/ or a similar one.
If you then need to turn of the feature image you can use this option from theme panel to disable the featured image on post pages: http://screencast.com/t/kxCR7dv7nU1
Thanks
GENIUS!!!
Easy Add Thumbnail worked perfectly Lucian, thank you! Saved me weeks of trouble.
Thanks for the tips..
Do you reccomend a plugin to compress images. We have over 14000 originals x 10 (or so) thumnail versions of each. Over 100k mostly jpgs.
If you are going to regenerate thumbs, then changing the default compression level in functions.php good idea.
For your “main” images you likely need to use something like smush.it (I don’t use, don’t know).
Alternately you could download via shell from server, then run something like “caesium” software on image folder, then reupload to server.
Thanks Chris.. ima try the caesium way.. no more plugins then necessary.
We make money on our site.. Are happy to pay anyone resonably for their services… 205k photos took me 13 hours on shitty broadband in paris. now folder by folder in caesium.
thanks again.
Chris. What’s your thoughts on yoasts wordpress SEO.. I think its sucks major server resources and all I really like is the sitemap creator.. do you recommend a solid sm creator and updator that includes images?
We used to use custom SEO tool … now we’re using Yoast as laziness …
there is a great sitemap tool we used to use, still the main alternative to yoast … forget it’s name —
