Modal Popup not working

For some reason, modal popup is no longer working. Now, images are just linking to their own image url:

I downgraded my theme (back two versions) and now it works. Thx.

I had to upgrade to 12.6 due to a vulnerability in 12.3.

Still not fixed. Modal is not working with the classic editor and Newspaper 12.6
Are you aware of this?
