Exporting and importing customized version of Newspaper theme

Hi,
We have been working on customising the theme to suit the needs of our site. We are nearly ready to launch the updated site and need to export the customised version of the newspaper theme to our live site.

We will need to create a new version of the staging site as there are 200-300 new posts on the live site since we started work on the existing staging site, (this will reset the staging site to the existing theme)and from there we will need to import the customised version of the newspaper theme. Once testing has been completed we will then launch the updated staging site as the new version of the live site.

In short, can I export newspaper theme complete with customised homepage/posts/pages etc from staging site and import to live site. (I don’t think this can be done by exporting/importing settings, though I may be wrong).

Regards,
John

Hi John,

Using the import/export option from the theme will allow you to import only the theme panel settings, the cloud templates go in tool > export – https://i.imgur.com/3Wxk885.png then to import you need to go in tool > import then install the wordpress importer and clink on run import – https://i.imgur.com/tyxoVvg.png
Also, you have to use a plugin for migrate https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/

Thank you!

Hi Anamaria,
Thank you for coming back to me. I’m still having an issue. I’m able to import the xml file and it is importing templates such as Header Template, Footer Template, 404 Templates, etc (see screenshot attached https://imgur.com/a/oNUWKeq) but not the Homepage.

It is this customized homepage (with blocks/fonts/colours) that I need to import to the updated staging site. Am I missing a step or is there a workaround?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

You can import the cloud template from here and after you can copy and paste the code from one template to another https://i.imgur.com/PEFV2Q0.png -> https://i.imgur.com/Eo6lCDN.png -> https://i.imgur.com/SCUtEO7.png

Thank you!

Thank you Anamaria,
That was exactly the solution I was looking for. Easy when you know how, but your clear and concise instructions on how to solve the issue is what customer support should be.

Thanks again,
John
