Error submitting XML to google

Hi,

Im trying to submit my sitemap to google and get the following Error

Ive been following a few guides on setting up my site settings, the permalinks and SEO settings (titles and meta), im wondering if ive made a booper somewhere.

The site is http://www.tabletopminis.com

Any ideas what this error means and how i can get rid of it? Thanks

What are you using to create the sitemap?
Might check the settings of the plugin you’re using to generate sitemap.

Theme doesn’t create or manage your sitemap XML file; that is built by the plugin you’re using (e.g., YOAST SEO, etc.).

Hi, Yeah its yoast im using.

I changed a few setting like the format of posts pages etc to
%%title%% %%page%% %%sep%% %%sitename%%
after reading a guide and also disabled authors archives and datebased archives and enabled Noindex subpages of archives.

The problem is i dont understand what these settings are really doing other than unnecesserily complicating my host space and the guide recommended making these changes, but i dont really understand the error.

I get a sitemap helps google update its search results better, but why does YOAST generate 7 sitemaps for my site. Im a little confused. Still im pointing google to /sitemap_index.xml

Any help appreciated. Ive made some changes to my page names and they havent been reflected in a google search for a few days, is it not updating because of this error, ie is clearing it important?

Well… reading the documentation for Yoast SEO might be good place to start 😉

Also good to look at your “page source” to *SEE* what is actually being populated into all your meta tags and open graph (og:tags) tags. [ it looked okay to me ! ]

You can also click the link in the sitemap tab of Yoast to see what the XML sitemap index looks like. Assuming you already did that.

You can also use the “test sitemap” button in webmaster tools to see what it says.

You get multiple sitemaps because of taxonomies and also a 1,000 item limit per index file. (So, a site with 4,000 items would have 01, 02, 03, 04 pages …. and “index” tells Google what maps are part of the overall site “map”.) Author sitemap might just be list of authors; tag sitemap might be list of tags. Mobile sitemap on some sites identify which content is mobile ready, vs what is not; etc.

thanks, ive just done some digging and found i have no topics therefore no topic-tag xml, which i guess is why google is getting a 404.

Strange… its the first time i have noticed topics in the wordpress menu lol, maybe i should be using them with categories and tags.
