Suggested Image Dimensions for Newspaper 12

I have read the documentation and numerous threads on this forum, yet I still find myself unclear on the optimal pixel dimensions for uploading images.
I want to be diligent in optimizing the file size in kilobytes and convert them to webp format, however, the optimal pixel dimensions still elude me.

Specifically, for the Pre-Build website Magazine PRO and Default Newspaper PRO, could you please advise on the recommended pixel dimensions for:

– Cover images of posts
– Images inside the posts body

Moreover, I’m also seeking clarity on the functionality of “retina images” within Newspaper 12.
Are they solely the thumbnails generated by the theme?
When I activate the option for retina images, do I continue to upload only one version of the cover image and those embedded within the posts—is this the correct procedure? Do the pixel dimensions remain consistent regardless?

These may come across as rudimentary inquiries from a novice, yet I genuinely have yet to grasp these aspects.

thank you for the fast reply.

Even me being a beginner, I can understand that “If you upload an image that is smaller than your size from settings, then this could appear blurry and not of high quality”.
The issue is understanding what “size from settings” is for cover images and images inserted within the body of the posts.

I read the article you linked, and following the advice from the article I had a look at the detailed information of the images of the two Pre-Build website Magazine PRO and Default Newspaper PRO with the plugin suggested by the article.
They are all 696px wide, both the cover images and those inside the text… so: why do you suggest uploading them at 1920px?

If I upload an image that is 1920px wide and let’s say weighs 400Kb, then does the theme automatically load a cropped version at 696px which is much lighter than the original 1920px of 400Kb when it displays it within the text?
I ask this because after checking several images in the two Pre-Build website Magazine PRO and Default Newspaper PRO all very light because small images wide 696px, then I found one always displayed at 696px but wide +1000px much heavier.
So I still have doubts.

However, since one of the reasons I paid for this theme is to have technical support, I insist on the question:

Or even if it displays it at 696px, will the page still have to load the full 400Kb of the image?

Using the plugin recommended by the article that you pointed out to me on one of your sample pages (which is supposed to be super optimized) it seems that the weight of the image is the original one even if displayed at 696px.

According to the plugin that you (indirectly) recommended, the first image displayed in the text of this sample post is 1920x1280px and weighs 265Kb even when displayed at 696px, whereas according to pagespeed it weighs 36Kb.
