Can the modified date be shown side by side with post creation date? If not, that would really be a good feature. And most likely easily developed.
I know many plugins are doing that, however (AFAIK), none is really placing the modified date where it should be and this is – where the post date is now.
Would you happen to have any recommendations for what to use to show either only the modified date or the modified date inline with the original date?

Sure. You can display them inline if you are using a cloud template with the help of the tagdiv composer. Edit the cloud single post template with the tagdiv composer and add the elements Single Post Date and Single Post Modified Date. Make them inline: https://app.screencast.com/tk7qGp0ysCX0n and adjust them from the CSS tab.
