I’m trying to reduce the width of the layout. For type of site I manage, width when there is no sidebar is somewhat extensive.
So, how can I do this? It can be only on the body. Header and footer can continue with the default width. Is it posible?

Unfortunately that is not possible as you would need to alter theme grid which is not an easy task as you would also have to alter and adapt all theme’s elements/containers to the new width.
We will release theme’s version 5 in approximately two weeks which will have a new grid system with a narrower content width with 100px more narrow than the one available now so you can wait until then and decide on this.

Sorry for the confusion but as you can see from my initial reply I was referring to the newspaper theme not newsmag I somehow wasn’t aware and wrote about the newspaper theme for which in it’s latest update which was a major one we the grid has been redesigned and it’s width change from 1170px to 1068px.
Unfortunately for the newsmag theme there is not easy way to do this, changing the grid’s width is not an easy job and you would need lots of custom modifications for it. We don’t recommend altering the grid but if you really need this you would have to get a professional’s help and ask him to do all the necessary modifications and testing in this regard.
