We recently updated the theme and now I can’t find my sidebars, I can see that some categories are set to Default Sidebar, but I don’t see a widget position for this anymore. See: https://prnt.sc/h9N72lV8lhfv and https://prnt.sc/mVpR2mCxEsym
It feels like I need to learn Newsmag again, where am I going wrong?

You may need to recreate a sidebar if it’s missing in the drop down menu for sidebars.
Looks like your custom ‘author sidebar’ is still there, as that is not a default item in Newsmag.
I didn’t lose mine going from v3 to v5. For instance I have a custom sidebar for home page called ‘homepager’, and that survived the upgrade without issue.
Hi DavidFHenry, I believe that the elements you had in the sidebars are now in inactive widgets – https://i.imgur.com/8lXqQe9.png so you’ll need to drag them back to your sidebars.
Hi Calin – That’s right, but the sidebars are gone, that’s what I’m trying to fix.

Thanks Calin, I tried to do this for “Default Sidebar” the message comes up:
“This name is already used as a sidebar name. Please use another name!”
But it’s not there under Widgets, obviously there is something wrong, where could it have gone and how do I get it back?

Hello,
Most possible the sidebar to be there if you receive that message and something to interfere with it. What I can suggest is to install the classic widget plugin and see of those are there. Also, you can do a test using only the theme plugins to see if the sidebar suggest are display. In case that you want, we can take a look, for this will be need to contact us via email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide a temporary wp-admin access and an example with a sidebar when this “This name is already used as a sidebar name. Please use another name!” is received.
