PHP compatability

I am being told by my developer and server provider that Newspaper Theme is incompatible with PHP 8.2. We are currently running PHP 7.4 which is way outdated. What is the most updated PHP that is compatible with the Newspaper Theme?

I’m using PHP 8.2x on two sites. 7.4x on five sites literally in midst of updating today.

Hello,

The theme is compatible with version 8.2, but please use the latest theme, 12.6.8, and WordPress. Also, make sure that your plugins are also, updated and compatible with the PHP version 8.2

Thank you!

Thanks! The developer we contract with for hosting (and has built us our other site) tells us that the TagDiv plugins create errors preventing us from moving to 8.2 and hampering us on 7.4. He insists the only way to fix it is for him to build us a site from scratch.

Can this be true? How can I check it?

Hello,

Based on our tests and the user’s feedback, the theme is compatible with this PHP version.
Also, what version of the theme do you have?

Thank you!

We are using Magazine PRO and are at version 12.6.8

We have no issues here with 8.2x — it’s more likely another non-TD plugin causing a conflict. I don’t work here, just chiming in 🙂

A host telling you the only fix is to pay them to build you a site, is total b.s. in my opinion.

Hello,

Please also ensure your plugins are updated and compatible with the PHP version.

Thank you!

Can someone from TagDiv look at my website (perhaps with a debugger) and see what may be wrong? My bosses are leaning toward building a new website without TagDiv themes. I’d rather fix what we have and stay with it.

Hello,

We can take a look and see what can be done there. Please make a full backup to all files and contact us via email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide the following:
–wp-admin URL and credentials
-FTP/cPanel URL and credentials
– a link to this topic in order to identify you

Thank you!

My organization is not comfortable handing over such credentials to third parties. Can you not, at least initially, run a debugger on the front end to get some kind of idea of what may be wrong if it is indeed the theme?

You might want to edit your wp-config file to turn on the debugger built in to wordpress and specify the error log option, then look at the error log that generates.

This info is in the WordPress CODEX
https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page

EDIT WP-CONFIG file in root of your WP install—
Find this line near the bottom of the file:

('WP_DEBUG', false);

Replace it with this code snippet with debugging configuration:

// Enable WP_DEBUG mode
define( 'WP_DEBUG', true );

// Enable Debug logging to the /wp-content/debug.log file
define( 'WP_DEBUG_LOG', true );

// Disable display of errors and warnings
define( 'WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', false );
@ini_set( 'display_errors', 0 );

// Use dev versions of core JS and CSS files (only needed if you are modifying these core files)
define( 'SCRIPT_DEBUG', true );

Hello,

We have tested the PHP version with the theme, and it works without issues for us. As it does for other users, you can try the suggestion given above by @simchris.

Thank you!
