Got notice of minor update to 12.7.1. Ran update and then it said the composer pluging needed to be updated. When to update and is showd as being inactive. Activated it abut formating on site all screwed up. Lookded again and plugin showed inactive Again. Had to restore 12.7 What is up with this? Never have it before
I usually update via FTP;
(make backup of site!!)
a) delete theme folder
b) upload new theme folder (not zip file)
c) delete plugin
d) upload updated plugin via FTP (not zip file)
e) go to plugins and make sure updated plugin enabled.
f) CLEAR CACHE if any.

Do you have any extra plugins installed? If so, please roll back to a backup and try updating without the extra plugins installed.
Also, make sure you don’t have multiple versions of Composer active—please delete all of them and then reinstall them from Newspaper -> Plugins.
Additionally, you can also perform a manual update.
