With v6 update, Newspaper has leapfrogged and offers all the functionality of Newsmag and then some. Can we expect Newsman to get all these options as well in an upcoming update?
Also, what would be the difference between the two themes moving forward?
I had the same questions as well. Wondering what the major differences between the two themes are as they stand going forward? Will NewsMag be updated? What features can we expect to come to NewsMag?
Am curious as well, was going to post asking what the difference was between Newspaper and Newsmag?

Hi all,
I’m one of the core developers and I can tell you that we are already working on an update to Newsmag. I do not yet have a difference table between the two themes but Newspaper has a lot more headers / post styles / category templates etc. We plan to release at first a bug fix patch for Newsmag and after that we will do our best to add new ui elements.
Would you say it would be a better idea to just move to Newspaper instead of sticking with NewsMag?
Or will the features between the two play ping-pong?
Honestly, I don’t see why you have two themes that are just SO close to each other. Wouldn’t it be better for you (as developers) to focus all your energy on one theme instead? I mean, I can understand if the two themes were vastly different, but I just see them as twins separated at birth, for the lack of a better comparison.
I agree. Why not making one theme and make it the best theme ever. Fyi,I bought both. NOW I am confuse which theme should I use.☺
I prefer the more narrow bordered layout for Newsmag for some things; while I like the wide-screen layout for Newspaper for others.
Radu probably should make a “what’s the diff…” post someplace (like, maybe a blog or something?) 😉

– the main difference between the themes is the width and Newspaper has a couple of features more now but it’s also more expensive.
– we tried focusing on one theme but we found out that some people prefer the boxy / small layout and some prefer the full non box layout. To avoid confusion we released Newsmag

– we did not do one all in theme because on this niche it’s a bit harder to make an all in one theme so we decided to have the two layouts separated in two themes. The border layout of Newsmag is kind of unique here and it’s a very different grid than the ones normally used.

Can’t these two things be enabled as part of a theme- i.e, have a switch for borders and a slider to increase/decrease the overall width (or add/remove columns off a grid).
I’m no developer so I don’t know if what I’m suggesting above is possible or not but would like to know if it is.

it is not that easy… for example the grid from Newsmag is very special and I’m very happy that it works like it is. I’m sure many people are trying to replicate it but it’s very hard to make it work with visual composer + all the other things (blocks). We are already investigating a new grid system for Newsmag that will be a big improvement. Plus there are many more front end differences.
Thank you @Radu for the update. I look forward to the updates to NewsMag..and I may actually also get NewsPaper 6 in the future. I’m just awaiting really cool gallery options in NewsMag (something like what The Voux theme does, where they have a gallery that opens up in a lightbox slider and you can have ads and also your text/description on the right side) – that would definitely set these themes way above all the other magazine style themes out there (it’s one feature lots of bloggers like myself who does lifestyle magazine based blogs keep asking for).
+1 to ads in the gallery.
Or, would also love ads to rotate in smart lists.
