I just updated to 6.1 and now google chrome shows japanese characters for the social icons in the top bar. I have english set as default language.

Follow up….All Browsers are reading my site as a different language since the update…. parsippanyfocus.com

From your description i suspect it was a Cross-Origin Resource issue.
If the issue is still there for you try to clear the browser cache.
