A Better Lazy Load

Chances are is if you are using this theme you have run into an issue with lazy loading. The current lazy loading in the theme is not very good and causes several issues leading us to disable it because let’s face it most users are having problems with it. Soo the better replacement is Rocket Lazy Load.

Difference between this plugin and the theme lazy load. It is better for page speed lol. If you look at the theme and you analyze the page such as the demo ( http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/ ) then the images are not really being lazy loaded. If you were to take this page and look through GT Metrix or another testing tool the image is still being shown on the waterfall and the reason is quite simple, its not being lazy loaded instead there is an animation to make it appear as if it were being lazy loaded.

True lazy loading takes away the impact of those images being loaded by replacing them with an alternative. Which is why on some sites you will see something like gray.gif or something being loaded in testing tools because it’s a smaller file which reduces the load time. However, the more appropriate way is to use a base64 version of the image to reduce the HTTP requests. This is where the browser is actually creating the image based on that code meaning it doesn’t have to download another image thus reducing HTTP requests.

Example: data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAAAAACH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAICRAEAOw==

The animation for this theme is beautiful and looks much better than the above plugin but in terms of speed it doesn’t seem to stack up. In fact, if you implement the above solution I am willing to bet you will do better in terms of speed than you would using the theme’s version.

I recommend that tagdiv looks at improving the lazy load animation by truly making it lazy load images, and to solve the animation issues that have been occurring on most users sites.

It is no problem Lucian, that is the great thing about WordPress if one solution doesn’t work then there is always an alternative lol.
