I switched my theme to newspaper last month, it looks good but as my blog is a muti authored blog, contributors have uploaded a log of .png files in posts. the newspaper theme generated 10+ version of every image in the post resulting in images go crazy in side 20-30mb for a single post (10 images x 10 versions).
There is no actual use of the versions of thumbnails of the post images, only featured images are needed. SO, it will be great if there could be an option like that where we can turn off the thumbnail generation for post images.

Unfortunately i don’t know of any solution for this. I know there’s a plugin which allows thumb regeneration for featured images – https://wordpress.org/plugins/ajax-thumbnail-rebuild/ – but you need something for the future added images. Try to look for a plugin which may add such an option.
You could also disable the thumbs for the unused modules from Theme Panel -> Block Settings – http://screencast.com/t/raifkogiRun
