Hello,
I’ve just installed newspaper 6 theme to my website http://www.allhealthfacts.com
But I remark that this website loads very slow than other, even though is no any posts and images beside one logo.
I’ve checked on http://tools.pingdom.com/ and I found following result:

http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/c7Ek62/http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/
http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/eMkx9G/http://allhealthfacts.com/

in allhealthfacts.com Page size shows: 1.3 MB without any images and post.
in demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper Page size shows: 1.5 MB with lots of images and post.

Please help to solve this issue, Let me know what do I need to do, to make my website fast as http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper

Thank you,

Sincerely,

a) regenerate your thumbnails for your existing content, per the theme docs
b) see the speed up info in the documentation, such as caching and optimizing your htaccess file settings — the docs specify how they get that speed
c) see my ‘sticky’ post on optimization at top of the forum for tips on optimizing your site using various methods

Now that you mention the regeneration of thumbnails. With my old theme, the size of my website was 1GB more or less. Now it’s over 4GB, because Newspaper requires so many different sizes of images.

Well, if you look through my optimization tips, there is actually a section on how to NOT have all the thumbs by turning off the sizes you don’t actually use, and setting the default WP media settings to your 3 most common sizes so you don’t get those as well.

So, looks like you have some reading to do 🙂

Oops. I know. I suppose the damage has been done already.

I am in fact reading all the stuff you have written. You are some productive person!!

The reality is that all this optimization is a bit overwhelming. Then you have to add SEO as well, plus the theme panel. I tell you, everything was much easier when html was the only way to do a website. 🙂

@centennia

ha! Yes, that’s one of the reasons we still do our “main” business site as .shtml vs WordPress. Much easier to “change something” since it’s on the page, and load stuff dynamically via SSI, and the pages are inherently static so no caching plugins to suffer. Lose some of the simplicity of things from dbase loading, and from time to time have to manually change something on all pages which is pain, but sooooo much easier!

Of course for a “news portal” a CMS is only way to fly. But, lots of elements to deal with due to WP, theme on top, plugins on top, then content, then SEO — plus the underlying server stuff running below WP — and then the external stuff being loaded on page. More complex than most people think — certainly not, “install wordpress, get a theme, type in your about us page — done” (AHAHAHAHAHH!). 🙂

Totally agreed. The days of installing wordpress, a theme and there you have it, a website, are over. You wonder where this is going. Is it going to become so complex that ordinary people won’t be able to create websites and share information? Even Facebook and Twitter have their own way to extract images and excerpts. I’m getting too old! 🙂
