Placing header/footer around other content (phpBB forum)

I’m sorry if this is long winded but if anyone can provide any feedback whatsoever it would be much appreciated!

I’m basically in the process of trying to skin phpBB by extracting the contents of the Newspaper theme header and footer using a similar technique to this (very old) video: https://css-tricks.com/video-screencasts/48-skinning-phpbb/

What I have done so far is create a new php file that ‘includes’ wp-blog-content.php and the header.php file. I then run a cron job using curl to scrape the file and output to a HTML file. See: http://forums.panorev.com/styles/prosilver/template/header-wrapper.html

The problem I’m having is with the CSS mega menu not displaying correctly. I believe all the code that’s required is loaded in, but I’m not having any luck, possibly jQuery issue. I’ve extracted parts of the HTML and put it into the phpBB overall_header.html file and the CSS menu isn’t working. I’ve further complicated it by hosting the main site http://panorev.com using WPengine, and having the forums on a separate hosting provider on a subdomain http://forums.panorev.com … I am trying to prove this will work before deciding if I will go the phpBB route since it is a robust forum solution.

Does anyone have any experience with such a task? Can anyone definitively say that my problem is likely to be that I’m using two different hosts to try and load the menu as the JS and CSS is being called across domains? Anything else to add?

Failing this, I’m probably going to look at another forum solution, as I really wanted something that people are used to that I can run with lots of features. I have read over the years that bbPress isn’t really up to scratch… has anyone tried Simple:Press?

Is this the way to get support for the theme? If so would appreciate any feedback even if it’s that tagdiv has never had anyone try this before…
