Hi Guys,
I’m having some thoughts on the social sharing buttons, how they work on posts and adding images to the social tab in Yoast
When I try to share a post via the social icons on the post page I don’t always get an image appear with the post, I have bought this up previously with you about facebook sharing and know of the facebook limitations etc but I seem to be getting this with twitter also.
I would like twitter to show the image on new posts but it doesn’t appear, I know I can achieve this with a twitter card plugin or similar but I thought that was the point of the social tab in Yoast? I have tried some twitter card plugins but they seem to slow the site to a standstill and conflict with the yoast plugin.
Moving on to Yoast… When I add the data to the social fields I can add the facebook image but the other images for Twitter and G+ will not upload unless I load the facebook image and save the draft then move on to upload the twitter image and save the draft and then move on to the G+ image and save the draft etc, mildly annoying as it is but when I share a twitter post after uploading the yoast image the image still doesn’t show until the post is clicked open in twitter, is this normal?
I’ve had a look around the forums and there are various suggestions and things that I have tried to remedy the situation but can’t seem to put my finger on it.. obviously I can get the first social media post on each article to look correct by doing them manually but this doesn’t help when the posts are shared by our visitors.
Let me know your thoughts
if I paste a url straight into G+ it shows the image from the correct post but the text below it is from another post
Hi unplug.tips,
Sorry for the delay!
For twitter you can use Yoast’s Social section to set the twitter sharer to use a wide image with summary, like this: http://screencast.com/t/EGLHVuMV – http://screencast.com/t/D9wSKw4ZBq You can also use this guide to setup your post’s twitter share with yoast: http://kb.yoast.com/article/147-setting-up-twitter-cards-in-wordpress-seo
The google plus share can interfere with the seo markup so you can try to remove this itemprop=”image” attributes which could cause g+ not to grab the right image: http://screencast.com/t/rKPUYVBAb
I’ve also tested the g+ sharer but found no issues with it: http://screencast.com/t/MQw1kyI6Yr1
Please let me know if this isn’t helping and give us more details on this.
Hope this helps!
Thanks
