Is there a way to change the publish date, but not have it change the permalink date in the URL? We want to modify the date of a featured post so that it appears as the main story ahead of a newer featured post.
We thought we could just change the publish date, but that changed the permalink date.

Hello,
The easiest way to achieve this is to change your permalinks to not display date https://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks. Unfortunately WordPress relies on the publish date to get the permalinks and it will not be an easy task to change that behavior. Maybe you could find a plugin that has such an option.
