Background image quality?

Hi there.

I am trying to use a high-res background image (2560×1440). However the theme only displays a small portion of it (about 20%) and this creates a blurry look. Yet the page will still load the 424 KB image.

Is there some aspect ratio I need to use to fix this?

ps The options I have used are center, no repeat, fixed.

Hello Magistar,

There’s no ideal size. For best graphic results you could use a full hd image (1920x1080px), make sure you compress it, you don’t want a large file, it will slow page loading speed. Also, I’ve checked on our theme with an high-res background image (2560*1440px) and seems to works fine. To achieve the result you can try to activate the stretch background, like this: http://screencast.com/t/34s6BdAfMq . After this changes, please clear all caches.

Hope this helps and let us know how it goes!

Thanks!

Hello Catalin,

Enabling stretching did the trick. Without it there was a zoom effect.

Thank you!

ps

Now that high res displays have become affordable (+- 240 euro) my Dutch audience seems to be moving to 2560×1080 and 2560×1440 resolution. But yeah a large background is not ideal :(. Using compressor.io I was able to save 30KB making it 440 KB so that did not help much :P.
