Many themes are upgrading to the new feature, it would be important to have in Newsmag and Newspaper. We too have this feature? I think this feature is very important for the news sites, because the news sites have so many images.
Here some official information, the new feature of WordPress 4.4: Responsive Images in WordPress 4.4

Hi

Thanks for the suggestion. Our themes already have a responsiveness system implemented but we will try to improve it in the feature. Our developers will analyze this new WordPress feature and how can be used to improve the themes functionality.

Thanks for the message!

Hello Andrei L.

The system of images of the theme should be improved because it is inappropriate for display retina/dpi, all images with display retina/dpi become very blurred, with the new system “Responsive Images – WordPress 4.4” this does not happen, because each screen can take the best image available for him.

Your theme have always been among the best, now you have the chance to improve even more, instead of staying back to old solutions, especially because the competition has already done.

Confident that you will be the best

With Newsmag our images look great on retina/iphone 6 and iPad Air, and HD Apple Cinema Displays.

If you avoid uploading small images and/or over compression, and avoid stuff like Photon, there is no burning need for the new WP format images for many of us.

For example if you have a 500x375px image, which is shown at 300x188px on retina/phone as responsive, it effectively doubles the number of dots in same space and so should not look fuzzy unless you’re doing something wrong.

Just food for thought for anybody freaking out about WordPress’ method — since they finally caught up with all the theme developers like TagDiv who *already* had a solution for this. WordPress – last to catch up with tech, as per usual ;-0

Hello Chris S, now the standard for all screens is pixel density greater than 4-5 years ago (x2, x3, Full HD, 4k). I give you an example of a normal image to a page with article Newsmag, normal picture of article width 640px, requesting a display 2x is to have an image 1280px, so the image (640px original) must be stretched by browser up to 1280px, now tell me how can you have a beautiful image …

Yes, a desktop image of 640 is still shown at a relative pixel “size” in dimensions of 320 when shown at half size; so it doubles the perceived density when resized (I am a ceritified Photoshop guru for 20 years, fyi).

In any case, images look great how we do it. Your mileage may vary. 🙂

The new WP process is to load “smaller” images at smaller “dimensional” sizes, not “higher resolution” images at smaller sizes.

pixel density of a web image is still ostensibly 72, 96, or 100ppi for the actual image itself. You’re not saving out web images at 300ppi; and again, relative perception of the larger image when resized at one half has an effective instant doubling of the density. Try it 🙂

Chris S, even pictures of your news site looking at them with a high screen density of pixels are blurred, the pixel density is measured per square inch, x2 screen has twice the pixels per square inch than normal and this is a fact, another fact is that: to have the same output on a display x2 an image must have twice px per square inch, it is that with today’s standards (jpg, png) you can have one and only in one way … with a picture twice the normal size.

I can understand that for your news site images are not very important, because it is more important the content of the news, but you must understand that it is important for other customers (travel sites, sales sites, etc where image is a content important), just look for the word “retina” forums to figure out how many people have this big problem, about last year it was said that a solution would soon be found, now with “Responsive Images – WordPress 4.4” time to do it arrived.
