One many occasions my beautiful theme is ruined by excerpts being shown in a length that is huge and totally breaks the design. I can’t and I don’t think I should have to make the excerpts shorter since my website gets a very large amount of content and it would be really time-consuming to deal with this manually. Is there a way to limit the excerpts shown to a number of words or symbols? I tried something that I expected to do exactly that from the theme panel but it changed nothing.
If you manually paste a long excerpt into the excerpt box, that tends to “over ride” the default excerpt length in some places like the archives.
Otherwise, you can set the excerpt length for most things from theme panel for the blocks/widgets and templates.
I’m sure TagDiv will have better answer — but perhaps you could point to a specific example.
Theme handles excerpts very very well, speaking as a 2-year user of the theme on multiple sites (I don’t work here).

The theme excerpts offer control over the length of the title and the length of the excerpt. In words or in letters. You can read more about how to use excerpts here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/excerpts-introduction/
If by any chance you use a language that does not use spacing after a word like for example Japanese or Korean
(I could be wrong about these languages but you get the idea) then an entire post will be considered a single word as it has no spacing. In this case you need to limit your excerpts by letters.

just sharing, we use Chinese and we do need manual excerpts on *every* post
Unfortunately, this information does not solve my problem. My posts already have a manual excerpts added that don’t work well with the theme and I’d like the theme to override them. Right now, your documentation states that if there is a manual excerpt, your there takes that into account, so the settings you mentioned stop working. I want them to work even if there is a manual excerpt specified. Do you think this will be something easy enough to achieve?

In order to make the theme override the excerpts set to every post, you can comment out or delete this code: http://screencast.com/t/3sCI2yOmglmy This will make the theme ignore excerpts typed in post editing.
