Child Theme issue with upgrade to 2.3.4

Hello

I just upgraded to 2.3.4 using the Envato Market tool. The upgrade was successful however my Child Theme no longer works.

When I checked documentation it now says I need to copy the “single_template_1.php” file to the child theme.

Do I need the other files 2-6?

Same problem here. After upgrading to 2.3.4. the new theme seems to be wordking fine, but the Child Theme is no longer working. I’ve even tested with an empty child theme, but the site doesn’t work.

See the changelog to see what files changed for the child theme; as you need to update those as well.

This is why I don’t use child theme and just edit main theme then keep track of updates. With all the big changes to WP the past year, child themes just don’t work as easily as they once did — meaning child themes keep updating too which defeats the purpose! (my opinion only…)

Hi

When the child theme it’s used for files customizations it’s a good practice to check update_log.txt file for each update and see what files had been modified so if those specific files are used in the child theme you will have to check your customizations to not break the functionality of the theme.

@rbemerson
the way in which child theme works with our theme is by moving the file that you want to modify in Newsmag-child folder. You have to copy every file that you want to edit in child theme folder.
@DSLRMZ I have checked the child theme functionality and works fine. Please make sure that you’re using the child theme from the same package with the main theme: http://screencast.com/t/gwJPjoBUbvZ clear all caches, deactivate all plugins except Visual Composer and test again.

Thanks!
