Hello,
Every time I try to change design options in visual composer for a block, changes undo just after I click preview button. Is that because I have ignored some prerequisites or so? because this is the first time I tried this option. Thanks.

This could be a number of things. you can first try to disable all your plugins except visual composer and clear your cache. There might be a plugin conflict that is affecting the design options.
