Hi, we need this feature desperately as well … I thought I had put in a ticket about this, but now can’t find it. All traditional magazines (I’ve worked at many over the past 30 years, being a middle aged guy now) and newspapers put a byline at top of article to show who it’s written by and also most traditional WP themes have this option for the index views of content, so that somebody who wanted to read something by a particular author would see their name (the average person might be more interested in the name of the writer than how many views it’s had on an index page of book reviews, for example).

so far my experience is you can’t use Google’s NEW “responsive” ads unless you also add their custom CSS for the viewport to your child theme CSS (tricky).

Also, I found you can’t have ONE responsive ad unit for the top and sidebar.

So, for my setup I had to follow the 1.4 docs which show adding the old style two or three sizes for a topbar spot, and two sizes (300×250 and 250×250) for a sidebar spot.

The static ads don’t resize, a javascript peek is simply looking at the viewport depending on the starting screen size then feeding in the proper code to fit that space (e.g., 250×250 for ipad retina portrait).

In theory, to use full responsive adsense units you’d have to use the responsive ads section, paste in the complete code per space, then edit the CSS in your child theme to add Google’s viewport CSS for the class ID being used for their “new” format responsive ad unit.

I did put in a suggestion for tagdiv to possibly figure out how to make a new admin tab for the NEW (e.g., Sept./Oct. 2013) beta “responsive” unit ads from Google.

In theory, they may end up serving responsive units in place of the specified sizes anyway, at some point (meaning Google will do this dynamically …).

Hope that helped…. little bit of a trial and error to get proper sizes via the 1.4 methodology with the theme.

HINT: go look at their live demo and resize browser to see the sizes they are using specifically since the actual sizes are not specified in the admin panel only the viewport sizes.

One downside, is that “curly quotes” don’t appear in excerpts, which they should as quotes are not inch marks. Not sure if this “fix” disables that functionality or if it was a built-in “feature” to disable any entities. Ideally entities for proper editorial quote marks vs inch marks should be maintained.

yes, as noted, when I try to “hide” the superuser account (changed from admin to another name), it still shows up when placed into the default sidebar using the td author widget. Alternately, if I use visibility to only pick 3 out of the 4 authors to make visible, it still shows the 4th superuser account.

The superuser account should not show up in the author widget, even though the superuser is technically an author of perhaps a “page” when they are created.

The only plugins I have active beyond your core set is the Yoast SEO properly configured, the WP optimize, recaptcha and akismet. I also tried disabling jetpack, which I’m not using at the moment anyway.

(I’ve been a WordPress dev since 2005, so not a newbie.)

Hi, yes; likely removing the “comments count” from the author page via CSS would likely be good. Another would be the option to enter a starting number per author. This would be useful in our case where we are migrating a couple of sites together into one NEW site, and some of the old articles we’re also moving over the comments manually. So, right now on a paltry 40 stories, it wouldn’t be too hard to enter a starting comments value as a field in the author/user info page as another data field. This way, one could extrapolate a per author “starting number” moving forward. So, we have one article with 10 comments, another with 3, another with 2, and another with 1 for one of the authors. Putting in a starting or “padding” number for that single author/user of “16” would totally make this rock and roll for us and be better than “0” 🙂

Adding to the docs would be useful. I have four tabs open right now in one browser on one screen with the site panel, another with live site, another with the demo, another with forum, and then on separate monitor in another browser I have the docs window open.

Having the module list in the docs would be helpful !

Anyway… another issue is that with the hover on profile mode “on” … the hover profile with gravatar shows the user ID code and not the pretty name (e.g., userid might be chrisdude and pretty name is Chris Simmons …). This makes the hover element kind of useless as it doesn’t show the author name properly on hover. I suppose I could change the user names completely, and reassign the posts for that author to new user ID… but not elegant solution there.
