As newspaper got updated to version 7.3 we need to announce that it will not be backwards compatible with older versions of Visual Composer. In order to use version 7.3 of Newspaper, you need to have version 4.12+ of Visual Composer. After the update, mobile theme is not working properly in mobile.
Issues:
No thumbnails (asking to enable thumbnail which is already enabled)
No footer widgets which was earlier
Website logo is disappeared
If I network activate the mobile plugin (plugin not working after that- cant use the website)

Will the ads and the new ad box widgets have a help section?
do they work without google ads. I just want to run my own ads and control whats on the site.
Is their a tutorial for this?
If i did use ad sense – can I also ad my own ads or is it one or the other?

Sorry for the inconvenience. The mobile theme seems to have a few issues with the new version of the theme. We will fix this as soon as possible and release a new update.

The ads received an ad title in this update so you can place any title to your ads as adsense requires you to. For custom ads, you can choose not to have an ad title. You can use whatever ads you wish on your site adsense, non-adsense, combined (just not in the same theme ad spot)
We did not change anything other than added the possibility of placing a title for the ads. I don’t think that will require a guide as it is pretty straight forward.

since the update my home page is broke, only the header loads

Try disabling all plugins except for Visual Composer, and clear your cache. If that doesn’t work, send over your website address so the theme creator can see the issue.

Add this code in the mobile theme’s function.php:

I tried to make an Upgrade from 7.1.1 to 7.3. But it was a bad idea because after update i found with a lot of issues in practically everything. (then of this i saw myself forced to make a downgrade to 7.1.1 again)
Issues:
- Website logo is disappeared
- Ads sections disappeared from all the site.
- Footer with default configuration. Without any logo
- No favicon
- In the single post page i saw the sidebar in blank
- Read counter in every block of the index enabled. (It was disabled before).
- Default grid configuration in Categories. (i hadn’t had a grid before)
And then, looking for change the template settings, i could see all the fields in blank with “no logo, no favicon, etc”. It seems the upgrade reset all my configuration.
Details of my theme: I have a child theme with a few customizations.
This was caused by a bug?.

Is this going to cause issues when the update is released, please bare this in mind when releasing the next update as my site is live and this mobile issue has impacted business since I updated (I had to switch to non mobile theme) users were confused 🙁
In addition this update broke the social icons in the footer of the mobile theme (showing Japanese symbols) instead of Twitter, Instagram etc. on Mobile. Do you have a fix for this too please?
Also to confirm the above mobile function fix listed by BogDanB work for me (visually) so far.

The new update is released so please download the package again from themeforest. (the version is still 7.3 but the package was fixed)
@news_lp_client, the customization in your child theme are most likely the cause of your issues as if the files you modified got changed in the last update, you need to re-create the child theme. Please try to update your theme and switch to your main theme and check if the problems are still there. We have bno reports of such issues with the update and we cannot re-create them .The only issues we had were mobile theme related and they were since then fixed. Please let us know how it goes.

Social icons are missing, and strange characters are in the boxes, the “up to top” icon is not showing up and the mobile theme is irresponsive to colour adjustments on from the theme panel.

After update to Newspaper 7.3, comment counts starts to show on homepage. On the theme panel, comment counts is off. But Visual Composer element on homepage and components show comment counts. So, how can i close comments counts for everywhere?

Hi guys, I emailed about the issues from the theme update and I’ve not really had a sufficient response, I don’t think “fix it yourself”, which in short, is what you’ve told me to do is “support”.
Yes my entire site runs SSL, (https) but that’s what Google are pushing towards as the web standard, so please look to address this to future proof the theme, your solution was to link me to this:

Your theme doesn’t have any “http” reference in the functions.php as the fix suggests. This is not fixing the issues, are you suggesting I dig through your theme code to find the errors and fix them myself, again, this isn’t “support”.
The issues are:
– Social media icons are not showing
– Back to top button is not showing an arrow
– Views “eye” icon is missing and miss aligned
– Mobile theme does not allow edits or respond to edits from the theme panel!
– Hamburgr menu button is “invisible” on mobile theme
– “vid” video play button on “feature images” in “related articles” is broken and displays broken image overlay
– “<” & “>” arrows not showing in under articles or pagination.
If you’re going to offer support, why do a half effort? This is a theme bug, please fix it.
Pretty annoyed at this “support” level to be honest, especially as I now have a broken/buggy theme on a live website.
