Is there a workaround to use the normal featured image on video posts?
I like the video post format due to the “play” icon in homepage and categories, but I prefer to embed the video where I like in the post, and not only at the top with the featured video option. So I would like to chose video post format but keep the featured image as regular posts. 🙂

Yes, please notice that you can try to use the Post Template Style 5 because this one do not display at the top the featured image/video and you can add where you want in the post your desired video. Please notice that you will have to add your video URL at the Featured Video field when you create the post and also, you will have to change the Video Post Format. The thing is I want to show the featured image. Thats the whole point. :p
Video post format doesnt work for me cos’ is incompatible with video sitemaps, but I like the “play” icon it show on categores and the homepage.
So the idea is to use the video post format for the icon but keep the featured image showing at the top like templates 3 or 13.
