My Visual Composer stopped working, how do I fix this

My Visual Composer stopped working, how do I fix this. I even purchased a Visual Composer License but I don’t think thats the problem. I emailed support for WPbakery this was the conversation.

Me
“I tried to edit a page but my Visual composer no longer is working. I had bought a license thinking that was the issue but found out that my company already had a license since we purchased the newspaper theme about a year and a half ago.”

WPBakery
“The issue is because you are using an older version of visual composer and should update it to the latest version which is 4.12.1. You need to deactivate and delete the older version of the plugin from theme and then install the standalone version which is purchased by you. However, I would also suggest you to re-confirm the same with the theme author before proceeding, because if he has done any changes to the core plugin files, then they will be lost during this process which in-turn can affect the content and layout at your end.”

What version are you using now ?

Make sure you’re using the latest version included with your current version of Newspaper. You can also download the latest “all files” from ThemeForest, to get “almost latest’ version of VC, which is tested to work with theme.

I currently have ver. 4.6.2 – I haven’t activated Newspaper 7 yet because once I do my homepage and other plugins stop working.

Can the problem with visual composer be because I am not on the newest Newspaper them?

Well, make backup and then try deleting old visual composer plugin, and install the current version from the all files download and see if it works for you.

Note that “stopped working” means you can’t edit anything or make new items with VC.

If that is not what you meant, perhaps reword that?

note if you’re asking about ‘activation’ — you don’t need to ‘activate’ the plugin with Bakery folks to use it, as version included with theme is ‘bundled version.’

Try installing latest version from theme download in /plugins/ folder; try clearing cache, resave permalinks, and delete transients with wp-optimize plugin.

Good luck!

Hi guys,
I am having similar issues. I cannot save any changes to the standard block in Visual Composer. I purchased the VC licence separately thinking it may help the issue however it persisted. I wrote to the VC authors who said that the problem was “The issue is because there is a Visual Composer related code present in your theme added by the theme author. You will have to get rid of it. I would advise you to do so with the help of theme author, otherwise you might loose the extra elements added by him. Once this is done, you can install the standalone plugin and it will work fine.”

SO.. that is what I’m asking for help with. I originally submitted an inquiry about this issue months ago however it was never resolved, hence I went directly to VC to try to find a resolution.

Would be great if you can contact me about getting VC working ASAP.

Cheers,
Monique

@Colourofsunshine
probably want to post your own topic as unrelated to this one.

Specify exactly WHAT issue you have, what errors you’re getting from your hosting error log file, or WP debug code turned on, what you expect to happen, what actually happens, etc.

That way TagDiv can try to assist with your particular case.

One presumes you have tried turning off all other plugins to see if conflict with “bad” plugin, turn off any items which modify how pages load like cache, minification, and if using a CDN know how to set WP up properly.

(( I don’t work here. ))

HI

Thanks @Chris for your answers!

@Msegura909
and @Colourofsunshine the issues are not caused because of Visual Composer license. The plugin comes bundled with the theme and there is no need a license key for it. We always include in theme’s patch the latest version of Visual Composer which currently is V 4.11.2.

Note that older version of Visual Composer are not compatible with latest version of WordPress, that’s why the issue occurs. To make sure that the theme and plugin works fine we recommend to use the latest versions available, for the theme is V 7.4 and for plugin is 4.11.2. Check our documentation for more details in this regard: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ -https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-visual-composer-plugin/ Also try to deactivate all plugins except VC, clear all caches, purge the cdn files if you’
re using then test the site again.

@Msegura909
we didn’t tested V 4.11.2 of VC with V 6.5 of Newspaper and we can’t guarantee that it will work fine with it. However you can try to update only the plugin and check how it goes.

Thanks!

Thanks Andrei,
I have updated the theme through the Envato Market plugin (just uploaded to WP – great product) and afterwards checed VC and the same issue was still happening.

I then updated the Visual Composer plugin separately with the latest Newspaper theme download, however the problem with VC not saving any changes is still happening.

What should be the next step in trying to fix the issue?

Cheers,
Monique

Hello Monique,

You did not mention anything about disabling the other plugin so please disable all plugins except visual composer, clear cache and reset cdn files if you use it. This will rule out a plugin conflict. If the problem is still there after you do the above steps, then please contact us via email at contact@tagdiv.copm and provide wp-admin so we can login and investigate the issue.

Thank you!
