Post View counter not accurate

Hi, I’ve suspected for a longtime that our post view counter is not accurate at all. We’ve had some viral facebook posts over the years that link back to the site that show lots of Facebook post clicks which doesn’t generate a view count on our site. This has happened since the very beginning of using the theme in a variety of different examples.

I currently have a post that has 458 post clicks on Facebook which is only translated to 310 views on our site. The views on Facebook is almost to 4,000.

Is there a delay on post views?

Hello,
Yes there is indeed a delay on post views if you use a caching plugin and you do not have this option enabled: https://forum.tagdiv.com/ajax-view-count/
The post views will get cached if the option is not enabled.
Thank you!

Hello Bogdan,

I also had the same issue. Activated the option you stated but still the issue is there as the hit count is not updated correctly. About 2/3rd of the real hits are missing.

One more thing, I’m using wp-rocket UPDATED version but the system status screen on my back-end shows as I’m not using a caching plugin. Any fix for this type of an issue?

Im on Newspaper 6 with wp-rocket 2.9.8.1 (http://www.thepapare.com)

Thanks

Hello, is there a particular place where to place tracking code from Google Analytics in order to get a correct overview of the incoming traffic? (post views/users etc).

Currently I have the counter outside the <head></head> section within header.php of Newspaper Child Theme and it seems to miss a significant part of the incoming traffic. Especially when a post hits 500+ more views in a short period of time.

I don’t use a cache plugin.
I use a Child Theme (including header.php)

What is your suggestion?
Thanks in advance.

Hello,

@mbjayasekara
unfortunately we have not tested wp-rocket so i cannot say for sure if it will work properly or not. We recommend WP super cache and these settings: https://forum.tagdiv.com/cache-plugin-install-and-configure/

@rudy_roth

For google analytics you can use the theme panel section destined for this type of tracking: https://www.screencast.com/t/L4petf7ZCCR

Thank you!
