Hello guys. I want to upgrade from the Newspaper 4 I have now installed on my website to the latest update of your theme.
When I tried the normal procedure(select another theme as default, erase the old folder, paste the new one and reselect Newspaper as default theme) it loses almost everything. Styles, menus, sidebar etc. I have also imported the settings from the old theme to the new one but nothing happens. Could you give me any suggestion how to proceed?
Could I send you the project and see if any customization exists in theme files? This project was from another programmer but I want now to upgrade it for my client but to not create a new website!

In order to achieve the best results after you will install the latest update you have to follow some rigorous steps like this -> you have to delete both of your themes, child theme, and main theme. All your customizations from your Newspaper 4 theme will do not work because all the files from this were changed in Newspaper 7.8 and as the main theme and also you lose all changes.
The Newspaper 7.8 is a whole new theme so an update from 4 to 7.8 may cause the same issues as switching to another theme (but we did try to maintain compatibility where ever possible).
Always make a full backup of your current installation – https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups and then do a clean update, meaning that we recommend that you delete the old version of the theme before uploading the new one – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ update also the plugins that come bundled with the theme files from the /plugins folder. In the “how to update” guide is specified that you will have to run the script that will import from database your settings.
The shortcodes have been changed so old ones will not work anymore. Please note that old files customization or custom CSS will not work with the new version and you will have to adjust or re-add them.
Bottom line is that newspaper 7.8 is a whole new theme built from scratch.
Unfortunately, you will have to clear your agenda and spare a bit of time to adjust all your settings to the new version of the theme.
If you have already Newspaper 6 and you want only to do the update to latest version, you should make this without any problem. All your customization are recorded in the database which is not affected by this update.

Please keep in mind that you will update the theme from 4 to 7, the sidebars will remain at your frontend but the widgets will be inactive. You will find them at the Widgets section in an inactive mode. You should simply re-add them at the widgets. -> https://www.screencast.com/t/3KJJYW8p2uAf

Ok this seems perfect! Do you know how can I add an image instead of home menu item instead of text? In the old website I have sent you, they have achieve that but I cannot find out how! In your documentation I found only how to create with font awesome icon.

Maybe the website you mention was using a plugin with this capability, or achieved it through custom code. You could have a background image for the menu if you want like in this example

Hello. Again for sidebar. When I create a new page and a new block in Visual Composer, a message appears on sidebar which says that “While using Visual Composer sidebar settings are not available. To add a sidebar on page use the widgetised sidebar block.”. So I have to add this block in every single page I create? Because I enabled the widgets but they are not appear on pages, only in posts
