There is an option to set the first image as the featured image automatically and set it as an external featured image not saved on the server.
MY QUESTION IS: CAN YOUR THEME SUPPORT THIS? USING AN EXTERNAL IMAGE AS THE FEATURES IMAGE IN POSTS

Don’t save the image to my server, I will use this free plugin to display the featured image from it’s source

I know, I posted that link in my original support request. I tried to add the code but it did not help. I am thinking maybe I did not add it correctly. HELP please on where I c=could/should add the code they suggest that might need to be added to the the themes CSS code. I also prefer the developer adds it so that future updates wont ease the updates I do to make this work going forward.

Sorry but that plugin is not among the tested and recommended plugins. Untested plugins are not covered by the theme support.
The only tested and recommended plugins to use with our theme are these ones:
WP Super Cache- caching plugin
Contact form 7- used to make contact forms
bbPress- forum plugin
BuddyPress- social network plugin
Font Awesome 4 Menus- icon pack, supported in the theme menus
Jetpack- plugin with lots of features *it may slow down your site
WooCommerce- eCommerce solution
WordPress (Yoast) SEO- SEO plugin
Wp User Avatar- Change users avatars
WPML – multilingual plugin
Anything beyond this list is not tested and I cannot say for sure if it will work or not.
For the moment we do not know of any official method for external featured images. The theme requires an image in the media library in order to set it as featured.

We use auto post thumbnail pro, which creates local image from external content, to work with wordpress core functions and srcset for featured images, and thus theme thumbs properly.
