How can i remove all of the black boxes that have 0 for comments. I have disabled the comment boxes but they show up still: https://www.southbostontoday.com/category/editorial/
Also where in the theme can I edit the 3 section block on the bottom of the home page that has Editor Picks, Popular Posts, and Popular Category: https://www.southbostontoday.com/

If you want to disable the comments count badges, notice that you can do this from Theme Panel from here -> https://www.screencast.com/t/Obdv8gCh Notice that option will turn off/on this option for the whole website. The theme does not have any such an option that allows you to turn off only the posts which have 0 comments, sorry! Either all or none!
Regarding on footer section, if you want to control it, you should do it from Widgets section in Theme panel, like this -> https://www.screencast.com/t/YaGA2dpSNsAQ Notice that our theme has a bit list with more footer styles. So, if you want to create your own footer template, you should choose the Footer Style 5 and place in Footer 1,2,3 anyone block or element you want for displaying them.

I am using footer style 1 – Do i have the ability to change what content are in those 3 sections or is that the default? The only way I can change it is to use Footer 5?

Some footer templates come with predefined content, others are blank. The predefined content cannot be customized

You can select an empty template and add the widgets you want, configured the way you want
