Trying to understand a few things regarding the footer.
I see various layout options, which is fine, but I can’t see any way of creating and styling footers BEFORE making them publicly visible. Is that right? There’s no way to preview them?
Secondly, unless I’m missing something, it looks like I am only able to choose one footer layout, and that layout is either ‘Off’ for everything (pages and posts) or ‘On’ for everything. In other words I can’t set up different footers in different categories/sections to reflect the content type in different areas (for example, different content for sports fans, different content for travelguide readers and so on).
Is that right?
Thanks
1. You can use the Appearance>Customise section to edit the footer widgets before publishing them (for footers that do not come with predefined content).
2. The footer is a sitewide feature and applies to all posts, pages, categories and archives. It cannot be modified as you suggest. You can maybe try this on your own http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-themes/easily-add-custom-header-footer-or-sidebar-for-each-category/ (I don’t work here).
That’s a shame. With so many themes these days you can customise posts and pages with different headers, menus and footers. If you’re talking about a site with hundreds or thousands of posts, being forced to use the same rigid footer starts to look like a waste of screen real estate..
Yes, I know that for some themes which don’t offer footer options it is possible to frig it with custom templates, but newspaper isn’t so easily modified.

This is a very complex theme and the tagdiv team tries hard to cater to most of the consumer needs. You can raise that issue with them via email to add to their custom suggestions for modification, though it may take longer for you to see them adapt it to the theme.
Hello brian7454,
If you want to fully customize the footer section, you should choose the Footer template style 5 and add there what kind of widgets you want to displayed, according to our documentation from here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/footer-templates/
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the message!
Catalin, I can see how to customise the footer, thank you.
My question was how do I select which pages/sections/categories (etc) the footer is shown / not shown on, and how do I set up alternate setups for different categories? I can see that I can change headers per category (etc, etc) but not footers – which can actually be more important!
Thanks
Hello brian7454,
Notice that you can use such a modules/blocks in your footer template and from Block Settings, you can handle what kind of pages/categories to be displayed on the front end in the footer section. Another way does not exist, sorry!
