Featured Image not displaying correctly on Facebook after updating Newspaper

Good day I updated my websites to the new 8.8 Newspaper theme today all is well except for 1 issue the featured images will not display correctly every time I share a post on Facebook. (The link works though)

I get this error from Facebook debugger:
og:image was not defined, could not be download or was not big enough. Please define a chosen image using the og:image metatag, and use an image that is at least 200x200px and is accessible from Facebook.

The featured images I have uploaded to each post are 1200x628px and show correct meta data in my page source as well as properly being uploaded and visible on my websites. My only conclusion is it is not downloading the image for some reason. Never had this type of issue before until I updated the theme to 8.8

Any suggestions or solutions out there? THANKS!!!

I attempted to debug again and am receiving a circular redirect issue as well. “We could not resolve the canonical url because the redirect path contains a cycle”

Hi,

Using the debugger should refresh the data Facebook uses. Check if the image URL is accessible, also check what Facebook sees for your URL

I took a look at the scraped URL (see exactly what our scraper sees for your URL) and all looks normal…

Good Morning I removed <script async src=”https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js”> out of the header and FB can scrape the website again properly… Interesting tho I can’t place the script anywhere in header without having this issue or an array of other issues…. Any other ideas where to place this code (without having to manually ad it to each code in my websites again?)

FIX… I placed the script into the HEADER AD in THEME PANEL and DISABLED it from being seen on all devices… This seems to be a good solution if you manually insert your google ads

Still no image. Neither on Facebook nor on Twitter.
SSO reports: Conflict detected — your theme or another plugin is adding meta property=”og:image” to the head section of this webpage.
Site is https://publicspace.gr
Is there any workarround or am I to keep posting the OLD WAY, i.e. posting the Image and adding the link to the Description

Hi,

@Kostas
We recommend using Yoast SEO plugin for og meta, from what I can see the og data is missing from a post I checked in your website at the moment
https://www.screencast.com/t/2Fkoj6xrIvO
Also the featured image is detected as unavailable for the post I tested. If the required meta is available, and accessible to Facebook, then there would be no problem

Thank you for your reply Simion.
The problem appeared after recent WP update to 4.9.7
Yes, Facebook scraper reports 404 errors for my featured images.
And, yes, Yoast generates the same error. Yoast doesn’t work for me.
The only plugin that worked on other sites I manage is the WPSSO Core, but in the case of https://publicspace.gr with the Newspaper theme, it reports: Conflict detected — your theme or another plugin is adding meta property=”og:image” to the head section of this webpage.

Thanks again
I’m still searching!

The theme ads an og image in the head, by default

I believe that is a fix for when using featured videos, try to comment that code in that file and there would be no more conflict.

If you are getting this error, it could also be related with “Image Hotlink Protection” too. Enter all facebook url’s to your white list on your hotlink protection panel.
