Some of my images won’t load, and galleries I make with the plugin Supsystic Galleries will sometimes not load. I have the feeling that the normal jpg images are not loading around these galleries is somehow related to the plugin not loading some galleries properly. I get the following error message:
3frontend.js?ver=1.12.4:2329 Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property ‘trigger’ of undefined
at frontend.js?ver=1.12.4:2329

That could be a potential conflict between the plugin and the theme, in these cases the result will probably be multiple website issues, maybe not just with the images. There could be others but not spotted yet.
Check if deactivating the plugin solves the problem. If it does, then the plugin would be incompatible with the theme. If possible try and make tests with other gallery plugins.
The theme provides a simpler gallery in addition to the default WordPress gallery

If you require more advanced galleries, then keep trying plugins until you find one that works with no issues.

I managed to fix the issue. Below is the solution, just in case anybody else comes across this problem in the future.
It was a problem with the plugin, nothing to do with the theme. Their “lazy load” function was the source of the problem, and they put a developer on fixing the issue. Turning off lazy load made everything work fine again.
For my other needs, the Newspaper theme’s simpler gallery is able to fulfill a lot of functions.
