I have a staging site on http://nyr.sunnlenska.is (going live on Friday morning). My client is complaining about the featured images size. When viewing all the posts on the top of the front page the images are too small. But if you for example click on this post http://nyr.sunnlenska.is/frettir/tyndar-tugthusundir-komust-i-rettar-hendur/ you can see that the image is in the correct size.
Can you help me with this issue ?

The if the Thumbnail is different from the image size, then the Thumbnail will crop the image center-top.

OK but I still don’t understand why the images (when reading the full post) are smaller for the posts that are in the block on the frontpage than the posts that are not in the block.
This is the first post on the site http://nyr.sunnlenska.is/menning/gudmundur-les-a-adventufundi/ and the image does not fill out the width.
This post is in the list below http://nyr.sunnlenska.is/frettir/jolasveinarnir-koma-a-selfossi-2/ and here the image is in the correct width.
Are you saying I need to change the code in the td_config.php ?

No I’m referring to the images that are visible when you read the post/news item. The images that are with the first posts on the front page are all smaller than the images that appear with the posts.

I have regenerated the thumbnails for the posts that are in the block on the frontpage but they did not change.

If the original size of image do not fit properly in the module/block then the api thumbnail will crop the image.

You can try to use others blocks, or some flex blocks ( you have more control over flex blocks ).
