Easy way to change width template from 1068 to e.g. 1150

Is there a simple way to change the width of the template from the default value 1068? I would like to have the main column at width of at least 728px and the right colomn a width of a least 336px. I though if I give a total width of 1150 instead of 1068 this should be sufficiënt. Can I change this at one place in the CSS file or do I need to make several changes in the CSS files?

Hi,

A general width setting to change this does not exist. It shouldn’t be modified in the theme CSS because it most likely will create problems with the theme blocks and grids, widgets, etc. We don’t recommend doing this.
There are options to stretch the rows containing the content, for example
https://www.screencast.com/t/II6LCBDb5w
But this can be made only by editing each page/cloud template.

With the help of the cloud library plugin you can now use the tagDiv composer to design templates for posts categories, etc
https://forum.tagdiv.com/tagdiv-cloud-library-plugin/
So you can import/modify cloud templates or create them from blank. The same stretch settings will be available.

Using the stretch options would be the recommend way for a wider layout. Check out some cloud templates designed by us – https://cloud.tagdiv.com/#/load/All there are wider layout as well.

Thanks

Hi,

Thank you for your response and suggestion to use cloud templates. I created a cloud template, but I have one issue with this. The template is first stretched out the full width and after that resized to 1200px. First this is visible for the user, but more annoying is that Google Adsense is serving the ads to wide.

Image 1: wrong ads serving
Image 2: Before resize “event” (too wide)

Hi,

I could take a look at it, please post a link where I can see it happening. The width should be the one set in the composer for the row containing the elements. So it shouldn’t change itself, the set width should be loaded initially and not change.

If you imported/built a cloud post template you can set the width you want for the rows, from these settings – http://prntscr.com/nvdcfb
When using cloud post templates ad codes for the post content can be added in the template
http://prntscr.com/nvddh0
Also in ad boxes around the post content – http://prntscr.com/nvddp0

Let me know.
Thanks

Hi,

I added the template to this post: https://www.zobegaafd.nl/add/ . As you can see it load the page first with the full browser width and after that it resize to 1200 px.

Btw: I used the setting you suggested (only I used the stretch row and 1200px content).

Both opera and chrome show this behavior.

Hi,

I see it, seems to be a delay before the CSS applies, with a visible effect on the page loading. Do you use any dedicated minification plugins, or caching plugins that have settings for minification? If you do, try to temporarily deactivate/disable them to see if this has any effect.

Also do you plan to use WPBakery? You could disable this plugin and use the tagDiv composer. Because there could be various conflicts between the two when they are both active.

Thanks
