are you sure that this is the main font? When I open this font in a woff viewer, I see only social icons (https://www.screencast.com/t/jKAN6PNM)
If it really only contains social icons, how can I delay the load or lazy load the file? (Social Icons are not visible on initial mobile screen)

Sorry for missleading, is the font for icons and we do not recommend deleting any Newspaper Theme files.

But what justifies it, that this font is loaded prior to everything else and blocks the rendering of the site even if it is not used on initial viewport?

Please provide a link to your website in order to inspect. You can try and remove the file if you are certain that the icons wich the font contains are no longer needed. Just make sure that you create a backup first.
That file is loaded from the stylesheet and the font is loaded by the browsers after the stylesheet loads.

You’ll probably have to do minimize and combine your css to unblock the page rendering… I’ve used Fast Velocity Minify and WP-Rocket Cache to accomplish this. There are many alternatives (such as Clearfy which does many other things).
