I prepared a version of my website using the Newspaper theme, but the new page is very slow. The amount of content is practically the same as before, but now everything works much slower.

Can somebody advise me what to change, what changes to make it work better?
Both websites operate on the same server. In addition, with high beta traffic the server is overloaded in terms of memory usage and CPU utilization. Nothing like this is happening on my current theme.
Few things that you can use-
1. Use cache plugin, recommended – wp super cache
2. If you are using jetpack, better remove it. cause it slows down the website.
3. Remove the twitter widget that you added, it adds extra request thus slows down the site.
4. Discus slows down the site better use the default comment widget.
5. Use Cloudflare

1. W currently use wp super cache on my both sites: basic and beta with the same settings.
2. I use jetpack on both sites (only some options). I don’t think this is a problem, because everything works quickly on the basic page.
3. I do not use Twitter widget on main page in beta. I know that he works slowly and that’s why I gave up. This did not noticeably improve the speed of my beta version of the site.
4. for several years and I’m happy. I use it in the same configuration on the basic version of the site and on beta. If Disqus caused a slowdown, the basic version would also be slowed down.
5. I do not ude cloudfare. I’ll see if this plugin is useful.

Thanks for all tips. I will be making changes to my beta and will be answering after a while if the situation has improved.
We struggled just the same issue, hired an optimizer even, but nothing changed till we changed on a faster servers:
