Post Template: Selecting and Using

I am still learning and practicing, so please excuse my most basic of questions these next few days : )

When creating a new post in Gutenberg, I write the content and publish it, but my text is one long and very boring page. When selecting a post template in Gutenberg, it doesn’t give me the layout that the tagDiv edit mode page shows me (the template); they have images in between the content, but mine is just text only in Gutenberg.

When initially creating the post in Gutenberg, I am able to select a template, but nothing happens (I don’t get the aforementioned template layout), and I still see a blank page where I write my contact underneath the page heading. Am I missing a step? How do I select a template so I get to see it in an edit mode so I can add the photos and copy / text?

Maybe when creating a post, I shouldn’t be in Gutenberg but somewhere else? Obviously, I don’t fully understand how this works.

Update: I have selected Single Post Template 62 inside Gutenberg (the template shows a great layout for text and images in the tagDiv edit mode), but that’s not what I am seeing when it’s published.

Am I not in the correct place when creating a new post?

Many thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, none of what you sent me helped because I am not wanting to use Gutenberg to create a post 🙂

When I create a new post, I am taken to Gutenberg whereupon I scroll down to select one of your templates (or one of my own), but nothing happens. I don’t see any layout after selecting the template; it’s still a blank Gutenberg page. I am expecting to see Single Post Template 62 from within Gutenberg.

How do I place text and images if the template doesn’t load?

I just saw an email which included this screenshot. This is what I am referring to; how can I get to the tagDiv template to create a post? I currently get sent to Gutenberg when I select create new post.
