Style 3 Template title colour

The post title in this template is overlaid on the featured image – fine. But if it’s black it’s invisible on a dark image. It can can be changed to white in Theme Fonts. Then it becomes visible. But then it becomes invisible on posts using Style 1 Template, where the title appears on the a white background.

What is the solution to this? Theme Panel offers no customisation of Post Title colour for individual templates. Didn’t anyone think of this when designing Style 3 Template?

I know there are cloud options but can’t use any cloud templates while they remain incompatible with my paywall plugin.

Thanks

Reading another post on this, it seems not possible. But why then does the Style 3 image (and Styles 7 & 8) show white title on blue background? Did someone forget to actually write the software to turn post title white in this case?

Is there a CSS you could provide that I could add to make 3, 7 & 8 work as they should?

Thanks
MG

Hello!

Please provide more information about your issue, screenshots or videos and your website link in order to help you efficiently.

A solution for sending a screenshot is this:
Download, capture, send: https://www.techsmith.com/jing-tool.html
After making the screenshot, you will have a link, paste it here.

Thank you!

This isn’t really an issue that needs examples is it? Can’t you test Style 3 Template with a dark photo, to see the problem?

Ok – here’s a shot – https://www.screencast.com/t/5nEEiHKUjmS

See how the post title is black and unreadable. The subtitle and author name are fine – white, as should be and readable.

Please test Style 3 Template and tell me if you see same effect. I am seeing it in Safari, Chrome, etc.

This the page in question – https://jazzjournal.co.uk/2021/09/26/billy-cobham-and-richard-bona-play-the-first-sicilia-jazz-festival/ – but note, I have reverted to Post Template Default – I can’t have live article looking as Style 3 currently renders.

Hello!

You can change the color from theme panel: https://www.screencast.com/t/iu0utn94ZtA

Thank you!

Oh dear – it seems you haven’t read my initial post on this:

“The post title in this template is overlaid on the featured image – fine. But if it’s black it’s invisible on a dark image. It can can be changed to white in Theme Fonts. Then it becomes visible. But then it becomes invisible on posts using Style 1 Template, where the title appears on the a white background.”

As you can see, I know colour can be changed, but the change is universal. Is there a glitch in the coding? If you look at the templates offered in WP Editor, it’s obvious that Style 3 offers title text is white on a dark background. But in use the text is black.

Either the code needs addressing – the best solution – or can you supply CSS and tell me where to put it to change title colour on just templates 3, 7 & 8?

Please read the trail above – I hope you’ll be able to understand and address my point.

Thanks
MG

Hello!

Oh, I see.
Please add this CSS code in Newspaper -> Theme panel -> Custom code -> Custom CSS:

.td-post-template-3 .entry-title, .td-post-template-7 .entry-title, .td-post-template-8 .entry-title{
color: white!important;}

Thank you!

Great! Thanks.

But someone might need to recode Style 3, 7 & 8 Templates to make sure they work as presented – white on dark, and prevent this frustration for others, right?

Hello!

Yes, for default, this issue is not existing anymore.

Thank you!

Post count: 500

You mean someone has just fixed it? The title is now white, not black?

Post count: 21065

Hello!

I’ve tested on my end on a new install and this issue is not happening. For me, all the title were white by default.

Thank you!

Mine on Style 3, 7 an 8 are still black. For example, with Style 3:

Note – I have not applied your CSS.

Can you take a look at my installation to identify the problem? Thanks.

Hello!

Please check here: https://www.screencast.com/t/6pVyV81JrqV, click on select colors and clear the color from there. Or look if you do not have a custom CSS code in the theme panel or Live CSS.

Thank you!

Hi Bettina – I am confused.

I suggested Sep 29, 2021 at 12:19 pm “But someone might need to recode Style 3, 7 & 8 Templates to make sure they work as presented – white on dark”.

At Sep 29, 2021 at 3:29 pm you said: “Yes, for default, this issue is not existing anymore.”

I drew the impression from this that it is now possible to set post title code separately for Style 3, 7, 8. But when I go to Theme Panel-Theme Colors-Posts-Post Title Color, there is only – as before – one setting and it is global. If I set to white, all titles are white, including those on a white background, and thus invisible. If I set to black, all titles are black – including those on a black background.

Has Newspaper code been adjusted to allow separate colour allocation per Style? If so where are the controls for each template style?

I suspect it hasn’t been adjusted and I still have to use your CSS – correct?

If so, my suggestion stands – if possible please adjust Newspaper code to make post title in Style 3, 7 and 8 white, as it is represented under Post Settings in WP Editor.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks
Mark

Hello Mark!

I just say that the theme is coming by default as I mentioned because I tested on a fresh install of the theme and this is working well. We will investigate more and try to guess why in your case it is different. Please note that we can not “adjust it” in 2 minutes and everybody will have the fix, but maybe others do not have the issue as you. These cases could have a lot of possible trouble why those are black or white.
One more thing, a lot of clients do not use those default styles anymore because they prefer and we recommend the cloud templates to have the possibility to customize them with the TagDiv Composer.

Thank you for understanding!

I still need to understand what you are saying. You say: “the theme is coming by default as I mentioned because I tested on a fresh install of the theme and this is working well.”

I don’t know what “coming by default” means. Do you mean that in Style 3, 7 & 8, with no CSS, you are seeing the post title in white? To help me understand, can you please go to this post – https://jazzjournal.co.uk/2020/08/15/charlie-parker-at-100-chasin-the-birds-tone/ (it’s set to Style 3) and tell me if you see the title in white or in black? The words of the title are: Charlie Parker at 100: Chasin’ the Bird’s tone

You can simply reply “For me the title is black” or “For me the title is white”.

To I am seeing only black, in Firefox, Safari and Chrome, on a MacBook Pro.

I know theme fixes take time – it was a suggestion for the future – but from what you say it looks like there may be a problem with my installation, which is why I ask you to take a look at it…

Regarding clients using cloud templates, I said in my first message above: “I know there are cloud options but can’t use any cloud templates while they remain incompatible with my paywall plugin.” (A reason, as I’ve said before, that Newspaper, as a media theme, needs to provide an integrated paywall as a priority ahead of shopping, which has nothing to do with journalism.)

Thanks again – look forward to your clarification.

Hello Mark!

Yes, you are right the color of the title from that post is black. But, by default without any settings or CSS, all the title comes white, please check this video: https://www.screencast.com/t/vBOc3IElnOB.
Please make sure you have the latest version of the PHP, WordPress, theme and plugins(11.2).

If you want, we can investigate via email why in your case is like that or you can add that CSS which I provided to you above and the problem should be solved.

Thank you for understanding!

Thanks – some more clarification please:

(1) In your default setting, what colour do you see in Theme Panel-Theme Colors-POST TITLE COLOR? Is it white (perhaps #ffffff) or black (perhaps #000000)?

(2) While the Style 3, 7, 8 shows white, what colour is the title if you select Style 1? Black or white?

Thanks
MG

Here is my experience – https://www.screencast.com/t/JruTL2Uoe Is this correct behaviour – what you see?

If not, there is perhaps a problem (some corruption?) with my installation. My installation conforms with requirements in documentation.

Thanks

Hello Mark!

In my theme panel I have no color set up, but you have black!
How I said above, clear the color from theme panel!
For style 1 the color is black!

Thank you!

Well, well – now I get it! Many thanks.
