WordPress 5.9 – Small headings in editor

Posted in: Newspaper
Post count: 65

I finally made the update to WordPress 5.9, I gave it a few days so any major bugs could be ironed out beforehand.

After the update I noticed that all of the headings in the Gutenberg editor became the same size, this is very confusing, especially with longer articles that have many headings.

Does anyone know a quick workaround or if this is due to get fixed anytime soon?

Thanks!

I still seem to be having this issue after the latest update, do you know what could be causing this issue?

Thanks!

Hello Anamaria,

I’m talking about the headings in the backend, the Gutenberg editor.

Please see an example here: https://gyazo.com/12bb2b5bb5b51d5d0dafb8ec7ebec432

You can see that all of the headings are the same size, before the update the size was dependent on the heading number. The front end displays the heading sizes fine.

Thanks.

I have the same problem since the WordPress uptate to 5.9. Updating theme and plugins did not solve the problem. I have also cleared all caches including server cache to be sure.

OK I have just managed to get it working again. Cleared browser cache again and the server cache and then closed browser and logged in again.

Same here the width of the Gutenberg editor is much more narrower in the desktop view with the recent update.

Hi Bettina,

I’ve created a screen recording using screencastify https://watch.screencastify.com/v/qgqlNEi6BugODo81maEQ

it seems the issue is tagdiv composer.

just an FYi I have disabled all plugins previously and soon as I enable tagdiv composer it happens.

Hello @linoormohamed!

The width of the content is small, just to simulate how it will look in the frontend. For example, if you change the cloud single template, then the width will change also in the editor when you refresh the page. Please check this video: https://www.screencast.com/t/q6kGTCVH

Thank you!

Hello @Achimzwo!

I’ve tested on my end with the wp version 5.9.1 & 5.9 and it seems to work. Please make a test and deactivate ALL plugins except tagDiv ones, also deactivate the cache plugin that you use, and try again in an incognito tab.

Let me know the results!

Thank you!

It did work as expected on 5.9, after the latest update to Newspaper.

But now we’re facing the same issue here on WP 5.9.1, with the latest version of Newspaper.

@Bettina

It’s 1:1 with above problem. Newspaper are not styling the headlines as they should.

Your wp-content/themes/Newspaper/gutenberg-editor.css?ver=11.4.1 are not mapping correctly to h1,h2,h3,h4,h5 and h6 in the Gutenberg-editor.

Here’s the current problem. Note that no font-size are properly added for the h3 element.

The provided CSS are not following the way WordPress are currently generating headlines (‘h3.wp-block’). Newspaper are trying to map the headlines with ‘.wp-block h3’..

A quick would look like this:

Or fixing the mappings as you guys would like to do. It doesn’t really matter from our end. You could do both, if that’s more preferred. As long as it’s actually working with the current version of WordPress (‘5.9.1’ as we speak).

Kindly patch it so it can be included in the next update. Hopefully pushed our in a few days?
