I got a second update message today from themeforest for Newsmag. Is there any different to the previous 1.7.1 version?

I got one too. I’ve already updated and had to fix a few things to get it working so if there is a newer version, can you please list the files that were updated between the old 1.7.1 and the new 1.7.1

There was little fix there for a better support for WordPress 4.2.

Unfortunately I’m not aware about files that were changed and a patch was not generated, please update the theme again via ftp – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-theme/

Is it crucial to update or can we use the “old” 1.7.1 and wait until the next version comes along to update?

If you plan on running WP 4.2, you would likely want the “new” version of 1.7.1 is what I got from the TagDiv reply.

@ajaffarali If you use 4.2 WordPress version I strongly recommend to update your theme. Anyway you shouldn’t use an older version than 4.1.2 of WordPress as this was a security realease – https://wordpress.org/news/2015/04/wordpress-4-1-2/
If you use an older version of WordPress with latest version of the theme may loose the settings due a WordPress bug that was fixed in 4.2 version.
