Hi, after disabling ‘sign in/subscription’ for visitors – the search bar icon has gone. I would like to remove the option for people to sign in or sign up – but still have the search there in the header bar.

This sounds like a caching issue.You can check if is a plugin conflict by checking only with the theme plugins enabled. But since you say when you are logged was working correctly, then it can also be a cache or object cache https://forum.tagdiv.com/general-options-may-interfere-newspaper-theme/.
Please let me know what plugin for the cache you have and the server.

The only plugins I have are from the theme, I haven’t added anything this is a brand new site. The search bar showed initially – it dissappeared once disabling the sign in/register option. There is no object cache active
