When I enter the activation code I receive a message that states that the theme was successfully activated. However, it remains unregistered. I’ve been through the forum and none of the provided solutions have worked.

This problem is caused by the object cache that you have on the website.
Please check if you have an object cache file in wp-content, please delete it and try again to activate the license -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/general-options-may-interfere-newspaper-theme/
