Before I upgrade to the new version, is there an easy upgrade guide to read somewhere as I’ve seen lots of people are having problems.
Remember when updating to DELETE old theme and TD plugins, and upload NEW theme and plugins; including NEW child theme if you use one!
Try using my sticky upgrade guide or you may be sorry.
It’s a new version of theme; you may need to redo your home page for some modules, and reset sidebars.
It’s an UPGRADE not an update.
Where is that guide? Can you give me a link?

1/ you will have to redo your home page…that’s for sure ! And also all other pages
2/ Reset Sidebars…Well, that is far more than that. Sidebars do not work anymore with visual composer on V6 ( i really dont know why).So, it like me you have all pages with customized sidebars, you ll have to rebuild your all website…

Once you have done that I went ahead and use the Upgrade from 4 to 6 script on the Welcome Screen.
I’ve had to make some changes, but overall most things went smoothly. Still trying to figure out all the updates and changes. But my site was never broken like some describe.

Again, this is a major UPGRADE — this means new grid, new options, new code, new features, new options in panel for images, new tools for sticky sidebar. Hence the version number jump. It’s NOT an “update” to old version. It’s a brand NEW theme, so obviously some things won’t work moving to new version — note the “changelog” in the download — which you should *ALWAYS* read before updating ANY theme with WordPress.
For those who can’t find my “sticky” guide to updating, note at the TOP of the forum, there are couple of posts that “stick there” — including my little guide to WordPress optimization; as well as “how to move to another theme” — which is based on 9 years of suffering WP updates and is the “safe” way to do this process.
Again … this is a major UPGRADE … not a minor dot update. As with all MAJOR changes, you WILL need to make changes to your site to work with what is new. An old module that fit old layout won’t work with new layout as sizes are different, etc.
Give them a couple of days to shore up the documentation for new version.
You are under *no* obligation to update/upgrade your site — it’s not necessary ever — only do so if you want all the new features. Updating just for sake of there being an update doesn’t make sense unless you weigh the risks and benefits of doing so and have time to adjust site for what had CHANGED with NEW VERSION.
This may not help anybody, but just adding some input for those who might be totally freaking out right now 🙂

benefit from new features without changing something, but the site must not be broken!
Also, there must be no obligation to delete and install something in a specific order, in order to get things working.
And it must not be necessary to switch the theme to the default one in order to upgrade the VC settings which otherwise are producing an error.
Sorry, but the code just has to take care of that stuff. In good programming.

Hi,
You only have to change the icons in the menu if you used them and the sidebar widgets. The rest of the settings are imported by the script included in Newspaper – Welcome section. We tried to make this transition as smooth as possible, sorry for the inconvenience. The measures we took were necessary in order to assure the future development of the theme. We practically made a thousands of tests before we released this update trying to avoid transition problems for our clients.

not nonsense. When you change major themes where image sizes changes, old modules are deprecated, new modules added to FIT NEW LAYOUT, etc. — then guess what, you need to ADJUST things to new site layout.
I think you have VERY unrealistic expectations on how WordPress works, and how themes work.
If you move to a new theme, the NEW theme cannot make your new site work exactly like the old site — show me a video of a theme doing that for you, otherwise your comment is more nonsense than mine. Not to be argumentative, but perhaps when you get more experienced with WordPress you’ll know better.
Cheers. When you change to NEW THEME, which NP6 is, you will have to make adjustments.
They have done great job of helping make this as painless as technically possible.
A theme cannot regen all your images, a theme cannot create new modules on your homepage and change your layouts in VC automatically – not everybody is using 100% identical layout — that is why you can customize it. Custom means unique. When things change in the foundation of the code — with good programming — this means block/modules and custom layouts need to be adjusted as widths, grids, image sizes have changed.

Absolut right I work since 8 Years with WordPress Themes and this is the first with a lot of troubles after Upadte / oh upgrade, sorry. Not nice !

Well, I think tagdiv might be lucky ones, ‘course you don’t work there nor speak for them. 😉 Because I don’t like to be SHOUTED at in forums. And likewise most of the people I know don’t like that.
By the way: Most of the trouble might result out of the misleading “upgrade from 4 to 6” naming of the update script. The script works nicely, but you have to run it also when upgrading from 5 to 6. But for example the problem with the outdated VC-Data was very annoying. Maybe the script addressed that too. The best thing would have been to place the “run the update script!” message prominently on every admin page header. Maybe the guys an tagdiv can add that for people updating in the future…

Hello all,
I’m very sorry for all the troubles. As Chris pointed out this is a whole new theme that is released for free for all of our existing customers (and it’s the biggest theme we ever made). I know we could have prepare better for the transition and I’m very sorry for all the problems that the update caused but from now on the theme is built to be stable for at least one year. We are already writing huge amounts of documentation about the inner workings of the theme and the theme api, we will not change it again for some time.
I’ve just had another notification that the theme has been updated on ThemeForest. Should I reinstall again or is it an incremental change?
Can updates be done from the theme panel?
