I have a very old theme active v8.1
It doesnt have the update button as you show in doc https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
I also have some custom code in my theme child.
When I try to upload the latest theme to the customizer I get an error when my child theme is active.
Please advise

What I can suggest is first to make a full backup for your website and database and after that to update the theme (also, you can try first on staging or sub-domain).
The theme should be updated via FTP, by replacing the old theme with the new one (replace not overwrite), in case that there are custom changes in the theme files, those will be lost. Also, the child theme should be disabled and the main theme should be used. The child theme should be replaced with the version found in the last package from the ThemeForest and the code form it should be updated to the new files structure.
After the theme is installed, please install the theme plugins: tagDiv Composer, tagDiv Standard Pack and the rest of the theme plugins that you had before the theme update (social counter, newsletter).
